Terrified.

My readers know Claire was sick last weekend, and she had a UTI. I got a call from her pediatrician Monday and was asked to bring her in, the doctor wanted to look her over. I didn't think anything of it, just a normal follow up visit.

I was kinda wrong.

Turns out a UTI is highly uncommon in a baby her age. This is why her doctor wanted to see her. And the fact that she had such a high fever indicated to him that it was not just a UTI, but could involve her kidney(s) as well. Some possibilities that he mentioned were reflux, a duplicate kidney, or a kink in her urethra.

I have to take her for an ultrasound on her kidneys on October 5th, and hopefully at that time we'll find what's wrong and it will be easily fixed. If not, she'll be having more testing done.

Hoping for the best,
Amber

I hope you get everything worked out, however it is not too early for a UTI. My niece started getting them very young, and so bad they were damaging her kidneys (the infection, because they thought she had the flu because they never thought to test for a UTI on a baby). Her vagina even almost sealed closed because of her infection. Sometimes the body is just hyper sensitive to things like that. Definitely get more testing done to be sure, but some babies are just born with little problems like that.

Hi Amber, I don't know if you remember me from TMB but I just saw your blog and wanted to comment on this because Adria also had a UTI very young, at 6 months. I was told the same thing, that it is very uncommon for a baby so young to come down with a UTI and can mean more serious problems. She was in the hospital for close to a week because she had "abnormal" blood tests, but in the end she was fine. She had a UTI that then turned into a temporary kidney infection, pyleonephritis. She was on antibiotics a couple days after getting out of the hospital but has been fine ever since. and now at 2.5 has no problems whatsoever with her kidneys or anything else. Anyway, I hope it is something that minor and temporary for Claire! Hope she feels better real soon!
